Fluoride Treatment

You teach and encourage your child to brush teeth and floss properly. You also ensure that they get their timely dental examination and cleanings. These are important steps in keeping your child’s dental health in good condition. Yet, there is one more preventive dental step that our Pediatric Dentist recommends. Your child should also get proper and timely fluoride treatments.

When Should Your Child Get Fluoride Treatment?

Your child should get their fluoride treatment every 3-6 months. During the first dental visit, our Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Stella, will discuss your child’s fluoride requirements and determine the right time to begin the treatments. Fluoride is important when the teeth are still in the developmental phase. It is also recommended that teens and adults should continue to use fluoride.

Importance of Fluoride for Dental Health

Fluoride works by penetrating the enamel. It will strengthen it and increase the resistance against acid attacks. Children tend to take more sugars than teens and adults, thus increasing the risk of bacterial deterioration of the enamel. Fluoride therapy helps protect against this effect and also promotes remineralization.

Fluoride can get integrated into your child’s developing permanent teeth. This reduces the risk of cavities when their permanent teeth erupt.

Professional Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride therapy involves using a concentrated rinse, gel, varnish, or foam. The treatment provides your child’s dental health with much more fluoride than what is present in the toothpaste or water.

The therapy session takes only a few minutes for application. We require your child to avoid taking anything for about 15 minutes to ensure proper fluoride absorption. At Rockstar Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, our team has experience working with children and helping them overcome anxiety during dental examinations and treatments.
