Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontics is now quite popular among adults. Braces and retainers look far better than they used to, and you can have custom appliances made in a much shorter time. This has encouraged more people to seek adult orthodontics. At Rockstar Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Dr. Briana McRae helps you achieve properly aligned teeth and make your smile look natural and beautiful. Once straightened, your teeth can last longer and stay healthier.

When to Seek Adult Orthodontic Services?

There are many reasons adults seek the services of our orthodontist. We correct a wide range of tooth and jaw problems including the following:

  • Poor occlusion or uneven bites, when the teeth don’t fit together properly
  • Chronic jaw pain or unbalanced forces causing crooked teeth
  • Crowding or spacing that can result in tooth decay or gum disease
  • A desire for good oral health and improved self-confidence

Adult orthodontics can also help with TMJ symptoms.

Quick & Proper Adult Orthodontic Treatment

Dr. Briana has expertise in traditional braces, functional appliance therapy, and clear aligners. Modern metal braces are much better, comfortable, and better fitting than their older counterparts. We can use metal self-ligating brackets that reduce the treatment time. Besides, they don’t require many adjustments.

Our orthodontist can make the treatment more discreet by choosing ceramic braces that use transparent brackets. We also have the option for clear aligners. These appliances make use of clear plastic aligners in place of brackets and wires. Using clear aligners, we can make your treatment almost completely invisible.

Types of Braces for Adults

We work with traditional braces in both metal and ceramic tooth colors. They are on the outer area of the teeth and are readily visible and harder to clean. We can also place plastic aligners if you are a candidate for aligners.

How is Adult Orthodontics Different?

Adults have different orthodontic needs compared to teens or children. Since your jawbones are no longer developing or growing, you require different treatment options compared to children. Different dental problems create unique needs for adult orthodontics.

Periodontal Disease

Bone loss and gum recession occur more commonly in adults than in children due to periodontal disease and gingivitis. With straighter teeth, your chances of developing these conditions are reduced.
